The Canadian Meat Council is a founding member of the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC). The Council mandate is to provide a national coordinated approach, promoting responsible farm animal care. Through an inclusive methodology, involving the entire value chain, NFACC works to build processes that facilitate Canada's agriculture industries in addressing farm animal care. Videos on how Codes are developed in Canada can be viewed in NFACC's youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2cvixnA_MQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFbyJlFqwnM
NFACC works collaboratively in areas of common interest to members to make lasting improvements to farm animal care. Canada's abattoirs have undertaken many changes over the years - adopting the most up to date animal holding pen designs and animal care protocols.
The Canadian Meat Council has asked that the Federal Government participate in the funding of this important initiative as it benefits the entire farmed animal industry in Canada. The Council is also requesting that the Government update policies on animal transportation and welfare issues - Chapter 12 of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures.
